How does the NEW MOT award work?

This course replaces the Nominated Tester Training (NTT) which was formerly run by DVSA. This qualification is for individuals who are serious about becoming fully qualified MOT Testers. This intensive course will develop your skills around the MOT Testing Routine to help you become a Nominated Tester. You will focus on Working Safely within a Vehicle Test Centre, Working Relationships, Professional Development, Pre-Test Checks & The MOT Test. Using a blend of practical and theory based study we make learning easy by putting in place meaningful assessments that reflect the demands of today’s competitive industry, giving you a solid grounding in key principles and ideas.

The course is run over 4 days with additional one-to-one coaching and mock assessments if required. Once you have completed your Award in MOT Testing you will need to complete a VT8 Observation which we can organise for you at one of our UK based sites.

What is CPD? and what do I need to do for the annual assessment?

CPD stands for continual professional development, it is a model the DVSA are using as part of their aim to modernise the MOT scheme. DVSA have changed the way MOT training is carried out. From April 2016, DVSA has replaced the suspended MOT tester refresher course with MOT annual training and an assessment.

Every year between April and March, all testers must complete 3 hours of training and pass the annual exam. They will also need to keep a record of this training at their VTS. You can purchase the training that has been specified by DVSA on our eLearning portal by clicking here >>. Once you have completed all the courses please print out the certificates and keep them with your training records at your VTS.

The Annual Assessment will consist of 30 online multiple-choice questions, on the DVSA MOT Annual Training syllabus, and can be taken at any time. Each year, the DVSA will publish an Annual Training syllabus outlining the mandatory elements the assessment will be based on. The Annual Assessment will also cover new information from MOT special notices, additional guidance published by the DVSA, and MOT inspection standards and procedures for your relevant vehicle class.
